This past weekend I started living what I have been preaching. That is, you start off years ago - "in love" and get married. Those first years of marriage are so awesome as you build your lives together.... then come the kids. What a wonderful experience - a whirlwind! You get caught up in all the activities and then "puff" they grow up.
Everyone warned me "enjoy them while they are young, as the years go by so fast". And yes, I didn't think that applied to me.
Having said all the above - we were fortunate enough to have been given advice to keep our relationship (marriage) current - as when the kids are gone - that is what you have left.
This past weekend was my birthday. With the kids all gone - it was great to have a long weekend of dates. I didn't make a meal or tea all weekend! We went for walks, watched "chick flicks" just enjoyed being together and relaxing.
The mom part in me missed seeing the kids and getting home made cards. But the great thing is that we had a wonderful summer - going on vacation together not to mention the various functions that they graciously showed up to. We are so blessed with wonderful adult children AND I enjoyed my weekend with my husband.
