I have never been a social butterfly - so I think I am a bit of a nerd that way. I am ok with that - I am very fortunate enough to have a wonderful husband and family. This blog is easy for our family as we (as parents) weren't sports oriented.
Early in our marriage I made a commitment that our family would be together in the evenings and weekends. In other words, our family didn't go every direction possible during the time that my husband was home. Not easy in this world of activities. The Lord did open many doors that allowed us to do things and activities as a family. I think we were the only family on the block whose car wasn't going in and out of the driveway in the evenings and weekends.
At one point I thought that I would have to relent on this - doing the baseball thing. Yes, each of the kids did a season or two - but somehow we were able to stay as a family. It was when they couldn't be on the same teams anymore that the Lord opened the door for roller hockey. It was a sport that we all went to the rink around noon on Saturdays and stayed all day as each of the kids played their game. Then there was soccer - in the younger years there was a program at our church that allowed all the kids to play at once.
Not as easy as the kids get older.
One bit of wisdom stayed with me - and guided me. "Don't do anymore activities then your marriage can take". I was given that advise when our oldest was in 1st grade as I was attempting to figure out how to "do it all". That also meant NOT being on the phone in the evening.
